Another snap shot portrait and film shot. Shot using Kodak 400CN. This was taken in Civic Center Plaza in San Francisco, and if you look in the left lens you can see the reflection of City Hall. In the other lens the reflection of three girls we were socializing with can be seen.

An American Appriciation for Nature This was shot in a state park in Georgia - and on one hand it's gross to see that much used gum, on the other hand, by everyone putting their waste gum in the same place the rest of the trail was cleaner. I found it entertaining and I liked the color so I thought I'd share. (And it's another film shot hence the missing details)

San Francisco's Mayor, Gavin Newsom waves to the crowd during the SF Pride Parade. After kick starting the debate on gay marriage in California by issuing marriage licenses to gay couples in 2004, Mayor Newsom has enjoyed great popularity with the gay community. After the recent supreme court ruling, he continued to take an active role and presided over the first gay marriage in San Francisco. Along the parade route he recieved standing ovations (although to be fair most were already standing... However in this shot you can see those in the stands are also standing to cheer despite having a place to sit)

The reason I like this shot so much is it has the cop who was given a rose, the hands of someone applauding the lesbian couple, a peace sign, the lesbian couple, the journalist in the back filming every thing, the back of the man's head is the man protesting and I like that he's included without dominating and without his sign being fully readable (but I like the fact that his ring is visible as it grounds the picture even more in the marriage debate), there's the journalist listening to him, but it's not overwhelming the shot, and then there is enough of the building to see the SF above the door and know it's city hall. That being said, I'm pretty sure no one else would notice if they weren't there and didn't know what was going on. In which case it would just look cluttered.

A reprocessed version of this shot. This time done when I was actually awake (gasp). Amazing what being alert ads to a shot. I suppose that's my biggest problem with photography. I'm rather noctural and it's not unusual for me to be puttering around at 1, 2, 3 even 4 am sometimes. Combine that with the fact that I'm stupid enough to sign up for 8 am classes and you get a rather consistantly sleep deprived person who thus becomes lazy when taking and processing photos. I should do an experiment and spend a sleep deprived week taking photos with film (so I can't see the results till later) and then a week when I've had a lot of sleep go back and reshoot. Then compare results... I'll add that to the summer to do list. And while I'm talking about myself, insert a shameless plug here: I've recently started a writen blog for various freewrites, poems and short prose pieces, so if you're interested check out PissPoorPoetry.
